1000 Greatest Movies

I found this fun list while surfing the web the other night.  It was published 10 years ago, so I'm sure there are lots of movies over the past few years that would be on it.  I have seen about 1/4 of them (257, to be exact).  It makes me realize just how much I haven't seen!

Mickey Rooney

We all grew up watching Mickey Rooney, in one way or another.  I have two major memories.  One is his work in "The Black Stallion", a film that came out when I was 5, and in which he figured prominently.  The other is as one of the ensemble in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, in which he played one of the desperate treasure hunters who ends up on a plane with a drunk pilot.  He was a great talent.  He started making movies at such a young age that he really was a final link to a bygone era.  Here are the words of the LA Times' Kenneth Turan:

Interesting Roger Ebert Link

 A very interesting article by Roger Ebert.  Every ten years since 1952, the British Film Institute has put out their "Sight and Sound" poll of the 10 greatest movies ever.  They interview critics, academics and directors.  Hereare Roger Eberts's entires for 2012:

Movies for families

I have had a couple of people ask me for film recommendations.  As a father, one way I have been able to share my love of movies with my kids is through this fantastic resource from Ty Burr, film critic for the Boston Globe.  This is a very entertaining and useful book!  Here is the link on Amazon:

Entertainment Weekly 100 Greatest Movies

The Entertainment Weekly list of the 100 greatest movies was released on the magazine stands back in 1999.  Stephanie bought me a copy then, and I have read and reread it so many times that it is battered.  However, I still turn to it for a good read and as a valuable resource.  It was written by Ty Burr, Boston Globe film reviewer.  It features American and Foreign films.  I still have that original copy.  My current count stands at 72 of the 100 that I have seen.  Here is the list:
